One of my patients told me a story about that, after the Ash Wednesday fires. He was in his house watching the fire come towards the house. He watched as the clothes still on the line popped into flame one by one. Then he watched as the wooden stand for the watertank burnt and his precious water spilled on the ground. His house was saved though.

I don’t think I’ll ever forget that story.

Whoa. That’s trauma-inducing if ever I heard one

Another one of my patients moved from their farm in this district to Canberra. Partly because it’s a bit firey around here. Anyway, they copped the 2003 fires. She told me they were living in a suburb (I can’t remember which one now) and they knew the fire was coming. She opened the back door, shut it pronto, ran through the house, grabbed her handbag and a TV crew picked her and her husband up in the street and drove out. Fast.

(I don’t think I’ve got a third bushfire patient. At least not that is coming to mind at the moment.)

!!!

Again!
