China buys most of Venzuela’s oil because:

• it’s heavy crude oil, rich in bitumen, which is useful for China and of which type of oil China does not have a great deal

• it’s part of a repayment scheme (oil for loans) to repay significant loans to Venezuela by China

• it help keep Venezuela’s oil industry stable, enabling it to be used as an economic tool/weapon against American oil interests

So tit for tat in how the USA does it to mess with other nations.
