China has extremely accurate conventionally armed ballistic missiles specifically designed to strike aircraft carriers. They are too quick for any reasonable defence and a direct hit would at the very least destroy the flight deck and limit jet aircraft takeoff and landing.

When the shooting starts.
I would assume that you could overwhelm defences with enough missiles.
Plus defence you need to take out all of them, whilst attacking you could do serious damage with one or two hits.
Its like the idea of a defence network to take out nukes, only one needs to make a hit and your in trouble.
And in drones and distractions and you aren’t invulnerable anymore.
