He who smelt it: Michael Levitt, a leading gastroenterologist, had an illustrious career working out the status of flatus. One of his studies compared gas by gender.

Those who dealt it: Women’s farts had a much greater odor intensity, the study found, but men produced a larger volume of gas per toot. In other words, it was a tie.
