The Poor People’s Campaign in America estimates that 600 Americans die each day from preventable poverty related diseases or consequences.

That’s a surprisingly small number. Roughly 1 part in 500,000. I wouldn’t be surprised if Australia does worse than that.

I know 1 in 3 Australians are suffering food insecurity. I didn’t consider that we would be worse than America. That is a sobering thought.

My school offers free lunches for kids from disadvantaged families. At the end of last year, the charity we used told us they could no longer provide food as requests for their services has tripled. So the P&C kindly donate to make up the shortfall; disadvantaged families have also increased within the school.
