having been slightly lost in much safer bushes when we were younger those are certainly terrifying but possible exits that crossed our consciousness
I’ve been lost in forest for a few hours when just going for a morning walk not far from home, when I lived down South Mole Creek way.
It’s very easy to do if you’re not properly equipped and your attention wanders for a moment or two.
Celine eventually found the river and apparently decided to follow it, but presumably either fell in or tried to cross it at some point, and got stuck in the water amongst debris.
Orientation is everything. You can take a person out on the Hay plains and spin them around a few times then ask them to find their way back. Mostly they are totally lost. It may be flat for as far as you can see but everything looks the same.
