Behind solar power’s meteoric rise is a little-known Australian
The rise of solar power shows no sign of slowing down, with the International Energy Agency predicting it will overtake coal as the world’s biggest source of electricity next year. Behind its success is a little-known Australian inventor.“I’m Martin Green from the University of New South Wales in Sydney,” he tells the ABC in an interview at his home nearby.
“And I’ve been researching on solar cells for over 50 years and had a bit of success in developing new technology and having it commercialised.”
Others regard Green as the godfather of modern solar power.
The man behind the technology that’s in nine out of every ten solar panels around the world today.
To understand the explosion in the adoption of solar one can look no further than the basic economic principle of supply and demand.
Since the late 1970s the cost of solar has fallen roughly 400 times.

I didn’t know that, rather cool that it’s an Aussie behind it.
Is that what SCIENCE was going on about this morning? Solar has so much potential for commercial use and is not readily adopted. Think of the free energy a place like schools could have if they installed solar panels.
I read of a couple of schools south of Sydney that did that. It provided a new income stream which in turn was used to improve educational outcomes.
