I understand all of that. But I do need it explained to me how the cost of washing and recycling the bottles can’t be worn by the wineries. It is a substantially smaller cost than cleaning up the wastes costs the rest of the taxpayers.

The recycling scheme in WA all you do is take them to a depot and they are counted and you get your money
In cash or into a bank account.
Unless the government tries to recoup from the industry it shouldn’t cost the wine’s makers anything
The only bottles I do see lying around are wine bottles, soft drinks containers, etc are completely gone

Wine bottles are in the recycle scheme here. Added a couple of years back. There was no outcry when that happened, so I deem it a storm in a teacup.
