Movie: The Lady in the Van
Sunday 19th April at 8:30 pm (115 minutes)
Alan Bennett’s story is based on the true story of Miss Shepherd (Maggie Smith), a woman of uncertain origins who ‘temporarily’ parks her van in Bennett’s London driveway and proceeds to live there for 15 years. What begins as a begrudging favour becomes a relationship that will change both their lives. Directed by Nicholas Hytner and also stars Alex Jennings, Jim Broadbent and Claire Foy.
Actors/Presenters: Maggie Smith, Jim Broadbent, Alex Jennings, Frances De La Tour, Roger Allam, Deborah Findlay
And Master Cheng (a spice for life) which they showed earlier today (and again early tomorrow morning) is also a very gentle beautiful film. We didn’t watch it this time, but we have watched it before. The description sounds naff, but it’s a good film.
“Following the death of his wife, professional chef Cheng travels with his young son to a remote village in Finland to connect with an old Finnish friend he once met in Shanghai. Upon arrival, nobody in the village seems to know his friend but local cafe owner Sirkka offers him accommodation. In return Cheng helps her in the kitchen, surprising the locals with the delights of Chinese cuisine.”
