The people I worked with in Jamaica didn’t eat donkeys despite the fact that they wandered the streets and would come into houseds if the doors were left open. Something about them being sacred – Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey.

Anyway, I teased them that it was a highly prized meat in Australia, and that those who could afford it ate donkey meat. I said that I hadn’t eaten any, because I’d never earnt enough money.
