OK, so the story seems to be that the Aquarius festival toured a few places around Australia, including Nimbin. Previously, Nimbin was a dairy and farming place which no one had heard of. Enter the music festival which also focused on key notions like anti-consumerism. Hippies trekked to the festival, and many decided to stay. Since then, Nimbin has become a kind of Mecca for these principles where people grow their own food, and sew their own clothes from homegrown cotton etc. The article argues that Nimbin residents have been preppers for a while now, while the actual story seems to be that they’ve lived like this for the last 50+ years and now their efforts are paying off.
