Who would call their child Yani?
The only place I’ve heard that word was when I was doing a tree planting in an Aboriginal first nation’s community.
There was this kid who was jumping in each time I started digging a hole., saying “yani” and waving a plastic marijuana leaf in front of me.

A quick google indicates that plenty of people have called their child Yani.

Still doesn’t explain why?

I suppose parents in another culture wanted to call their child that name. In some languages (eg Greek, Bulgarian), it is equivalent to our “John”.

In truth I have no idea why my parents wanted to name me “Michael”. And I never asked why.
