Hogget and mutton disappeared from the market after the giant Dorper lambs become common-place. It’s kind of sad.

I am very envious.

Their sheep are half dorper but half traditional meat breeds. Tastiest lamb but that may also be because they have a percentage of native grass in their pasture for drought resilience as well as shelter belts of shrubs and trees that the sheep can snack on. Very dry on their farm at the moment (uppper Hunter Valley), so I’m hoping for more delicious hogget in the coming months. Though I’m hoping more that they will get nice rain as farming in drought sucks.

:)

Do butchers stock hogget?
