When parties talk about how they will direct preferences, what they are referring to is the numbers on their official How to Vote cards – the idea of a How to Vote card being that, “if you want to, you can follow our suggestion when filling out your own ballot”. That said, every individual who votes is free to direct their preferences as they see fit. So if you want to preference One Nation last, then all you need to do is preference One Nation last on your ballot.

Apparently, as long as all the other candidates are numbered correctly and one is left blank, this candidate will be considered as last preference and the vote is classed as formal.
