try telling that to

This isn’t hi-tech spy craft; it’s an app available on app stores.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-05-04/police-location-tracked-bluetooth-flaw-axon-tasers-bodycams/106610886

damn fuck we remember when some other country were the enemy and buying their devices was basically selling state secrets because they would have security leaks like anything so we were meant to keep supply lines attached to the good allies

Devices that use bluetooth have their own unique serial number called a MAC address. Most mobiles, like Apple iPhones, have built-in privacy features that randomise the code and make them harder to track. This hacker realised US tech giant Axon, which sells tasers and body-worn cameras to police around the world, had failed to do the same.

Whoopsies

Like that guy on a submarine/carrier (can’t remember) which was supposed to be hidden but the location was exposed when he went for a run and left his Strava app going.
